Battery Plays Metallica

Being in my 40s, I thought my head banging, shot guzzling days were over; however, I thought I’d give it a “one” more try to douse my fears of going deaf when listening to a heavy metal band. And I will tell …I’m glad I went to see the Metallica tribute band Battery. Right from [...]

Review: Jim’s Steakout 4000 Seneca Street, WS, NY 14224

im’s Steakout 4000 Seneca Street, West Seneca, NY 14224

Should Cooks Be Tipped?

Ok, this discussion has really turned heated between my friend and I on several occasions. He (being a cook) thinks that cooks should be tipped like the waitress or bartenders and I think not! Why? I’m glad you asked because I mean no disrespect to cooks worldwide and please do not spit in my food. LOL.

Most cooks (if not all) make above the minimum wage and the wait staff almost always makes well below the federal minimum wage provisions of $5.85 per hour. In addition, many do not share the same benefits (medical, time off etc.) as cooks and all this should be considered. In addition, if the food is not right the wait staff usually gets blamed for that huge mistake. LOL.

Now, below we have added what we think is an appropriate tip for each food service title. We love to hear your thoughts about this heated discussion. Try to be nice. LOL.

Barista
No tip required, though many suggest throwing coins into the tip jar.
Bartender
$1/drink (or 15% of total bill). Pre-tip for better service.
Delivery person (including pizza)
10%, $2 minimum
Maitre d’
$5-$25 for special efforts
Takeout
No tip required unless something special is done
Waiter
15% for adequate service, 20% for exceptional service. For poor service, leave 10% or less. It’s okay to leave nothing for exceptionally poor service, but only if you’re sure it’s the waiter’s fault.
